How to Clean and Care for a Mirrored Wardrobe (Without Streaks)

Mirrored wardrobes brighten a bedroom like nothing else — but fingerprints, dust and streaks show up on them faster than on any other furniture. The good news: cleaning a mirrored wardrobe properly takes about ten minutes, needs no special products, and done right it will keep the glass crystal clear and the finish looking new for years.

What You Need

  • Two soft microfibre cloths (one for washing, one for buffing)
  • A spray bottle with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid — or a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar
  • A dry towel for drips

Avoid paper towels and rough sponges: they leave lint behind and can dull the mirror's surface over time.

The Streak-Free Method

  1. Dust first. Wipe the whole mirror and frame with a dry microfibre cloth. Cleaning dust with liquid just spreads it around.
  2. Spray the cloth, not the mirror. Spraying the glass directly lets liquid run down into the frame edges and drawer runners. A damp — not wet — cloth is all you need.
  3. Wipe in an S-pattern. Work top to bottom in overlapping S shapes rather than circles. Circles push the dirt back where you started; the S-pattern lifts it away.
  4. Buff dry immediately. With the second, completely dry cloth, buff the mirror while it is still slightly damp. This second pass is the real secret to zero streaks.
  5. Detail the edges. Run a dry cloth corner along the frame edges and handles, where moisture likes to sit.

Cleaning the Rest of the Wardrobe

  • Drawers and carcass: a cloth dampened with warm soapy water, then wiped dry. Never soak the surface — standing water is the enemy of any furniture finish.
  • Handles: warm soapy water is enough; dry them after, especially on metal finishes, to prevent water marks.
  • Drawer runners: vacuum or brush out dust every few months. If a drawer starts to drag, it is almost always dust in the runner, not a fault.

What NOT to Do

  • No abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or cream cleaners with grit — they scratch mirror coatings and finishes.
  • No ammonia-heavy glass sprays on the frame or interior — overspray can mark surrounding surfaces.
  • Never leave a wet cloth resting on the top of the wardrobe.

A Simple Care Routine

  • Weekly (2 minutes): dry dust of the mirror and a quick buff for fingerprints.
  • Monthly (10 minutes): the full streak-free clean above.
  • Every few months: check drawers and runners, and make sure the wardrobe still sits level — an unlevel floor is the main cause of doors drifting out of line.
